Experience

I've thoroughly enjoyed been a full-time math tutor since 2004. Below are answers to commonly asked questions including price, location, and qualifications. You can view all my information, including my schedule and links to free resources and video tutorials, on my website www.laura4math.com. Hope to hear from you! Subjects I tutor all levels of math, arithmetic through calculus: Elementary arithmetic, Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II, FST (Functions, Statistics, and Trig), Math Analysis/Precalculus, Trigonometry, Calculus, AP Calculus, and Statistics. I've worked with all age groups, from elementary school children through adults returning to college. Rate I charge $60 per hour. Students in the same class are welcome to split the hour. Location I tutor in my home in Aliso Viejo If you cannot make it to me, Facetime, Skype, and Google Chat are also options. I have my own tutoring space set up, complete with a white board, computer, copier, supplementary books, and supplies. It's a nice environment where students can study without distractions. Video Solutions/Video Archive If you have particular problems you'd like to see worked out, send them to me and I'll create a video solution. It's my summer project to create a video archive for students to reference. My archive is small now, but please check it out at www.laura4math.com to see if anything I've already made can help you. Email me for details but basically I charge my normal rate of $30/half hour. It's just as if you were showing up for tutoring, but now you get a permanent copy you can watch anytime from your own home! Test Prep I also do test prep, including but not limited to SAT, AP, CSET, CBEST, GRE, GED, TEAS, and college-placement exams. I have particular experience with the CSET exam. I teach a workshop for the multi-subject math CSET at the Orange County Department of Education. I've also passed all three single-subject exams myself and have since created my own materials to help other students do the same. See my CSET page on my website www.laura4math.com for information and helpful resources. Qualifications I first started tutoring at UCI's learning center, teaching calculus to small groups. I graduated from UCI with honors, majoring in biology and minoring in math. I then went on to enroll in UCI's teacher credentialing program, intending to become a math teacher. And while I loved math and I loved teaching students math, the 40 to 1 student to teacher ratio simply did not suit my style of teaching. My mentor teacher suggested I tutor, and I've been doing just that full-time ever since. That was back in 2004. Since then I've also been privileged to conduct CSET test-prep workshops for the Orange County Department of Education, briefly teach secondary math at Gorman Learning Center charter school, and collaborate with Teach for America . If you have any other questions, I'd be happy to answer them. Hope to hear from you!
