Juan M.
Private tutor in Aliso Viejo, CA
Education
My PhD degree is in Macromolecular Science and Engineering. This is an interdisciplinary program at Virginia Tech with a strong background in Physics and Chemistry. I had the opportunity to tutor physics topics for chemical graduate students at Virginia Tech. During my bachelor and master’s studies I enjoyed working as a teaching assistant. I assisted students with their assignments and projects in courses such as calculus and physics. I also did undergraduate research on developing methods for teaching differential and integral calculus, and instructing physic tutorials and workshops for engineering students.
Experience
Since I started working at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in 2015, I have been able to mentor intern students in what I do at work. I am working as a Materials and Processes engineer at the Materials Engineering, Test and Evaluation Group. Currently, I am supporting MARS 2020 mission in the areas of composites design/fabrication, structural bonding, materials characterization, surface/heat treatment, and thermal/mechanical testing. I continuously use physics to solve problems such as materials behavior in extreme space environmental conditions, and at high dynamic loads at the rocket launch state. I also know how to operate equipment such as autoclaves running cure cycles, and outgassing contamination control instruments for polymers. With the help of physics, I explain processes and ideas related with materials performance to intern students and co-workers. During my PhD studies in 2005-2008, I had the opportunity to tutor physic topics for chemical graduate students. During my bachelor and master’s studies in 2000-2003 I enjoyed working as a teaching assistant. I assisted students with their assignments and projects in courses such as machine design, manufacturing processes, statics, dynamics, calculus and physics. I also did undergraduate research on developing methods for teaching differential and integral calculus, and instructing physic tutorials and workshops for engineering students.
